On Sunday 25th July 24, we paddled the Great Ouse near Bedford.
Phillip and Dave have paddled this river before when it was in flood, and they went downstream and back up, this was a challenging paddle due to the flow of water, but they completed the journey as documented on our blog.
This time in calmer waters we planned an upstream and return paddle.
The usual assessments were done, and we were good to go,

Lindsey had opted to camp the night before with Phillip opting for a travel lodge, and Dave journeying up in the morning.
When Lindsey and Phillip arrived, Dave was already helping some novice paddleboarders with setting up their new kit.
The area gets quite busy, but we set off upstream on time, up and under the picturesque bridge that sits beside the anchor public house.

There is a slipway here too, that will cost £1 per launch, proceeds got charity.

We paddled up to the only portage on this trip, up and over we went and continued upstream past Phillps Chinese place that turned out to be a Dutch place where food and drink was available.
We paddled to just before the road bridge where we took a lunch stop on an abandoned jetty, places to get out are limited.

We met lots of friendly anglers as well as other paddlers, before re-tracing our route back to the start.
The weather was once again amazing, the company was great, the paddle even better, and Lindsey didn’t even try to tell a joke.
3 Paddlers and 5 Doggies on this trip.
