Abingdon Trip 10th August 2025

On Phillips Birthday 10th Aug, we (after a last min change) decided to do a recce of another potential round and back trip.
This section has many wonderous turns and crevices, like swift ditch, to be explored.
We set out as planned at 10am, paddling downstream towards Culham.
On the river right we explored Abingdon marina, the swift ditch on the left. then we found the entrance to the river Ock and explored some more, Water levels were very low so completing this section with a fin on an SUP would have made the paddle hard going, so we explored and gave up.
Back on the main river we explored the Jubilee Junction, the ventured further into the top weir pool, above Sutton Pools.
Where we took Lunch. With lots of other paddlers we managed our way back to the island with a pub and stopped for a swifty drink and refreshment.
We played with a few paddle strokes and towing techniqes that seemed to gather a crowd.
before returning the Abingdon lock for a clean and dry session and debrief, before returning home.
All in all, a wonderous day full up with excitement, (Rescued a dog), tips, training, and a really nice day on the water.
