On Saturday 21st June, Dave Graham and Antony set off on a paddle wild camp, Peter unfortunately had to drop out shortly before so couldn’t attend.
The sun was out, and we had clear blue skies as we meandered down the river.
The temperature was in the high 20’s, so we rested and took on some fluids at various points before deciding on our camping spot.
We settled on an idyllic location and positioned our homes for the night in safe areas as there was plenty of dead and fallen trees around us and the last thing we wanted was an unwelcome encounter with a visiting tree during the night.
Once base camp was set, we sat about chatting, removing some clothes as the heat was getting a little uncomfortable.
Then we gathered some dead wood off the ground and set about building a small fire to cook our suppers. (No pun intended)
As Antony carefully placed the (brand new) Kettel above, Dave and Graham set about making fire, with sticks and a bow.
Voila. about an hour and a few blisters later we had smoke then flames.
We had a few showers overnight, that were forecast but we were all safely tucked up and sleeping soundly, and the sound of the rain on the tent was amazing.
Next morning, the 22nd we were all up early, coffee was on the menu.
All bugged out we were off in the direction of Abingdon. What a beautiful place observed from the river.
It was a great trip with these two, and we are planning another one in mid Sept.
We arrived at our get out at just after 10am, after a great trip, with great company.
The weather was great, and we made fire with sticks. the end.
