Newsletter Jan 2024

Hi all, I am Chris Harper and I am the Davepaddles Communications Officer. I have yet to meet you all but look forward to doing so soon.
I attach the club’s first newsletter, although I can claim no credit for putting it together, as that was done by Dave as I was away on holiday. He has given us a good start to follow.

We aim to produce monthly newsletters to tell you all that we have achieved in the past month, what we plan to do in the next few months and any other general news items. This can include input from yourselves in a member’s voice section. Any content should be forwarded to me for inclusion.

On communications in general, we will use our website, Facebook and WhatsApp groups. Our Davepaddles.co.uk website will be our main source of information about the club, covering Procedures, Governance, Trip reports and plans, along with a multitude of information.

Supporting the website, we will be using the ‘Davepaddles Members Page’ on Facebook for our day-to-day communications so it is important that you register as a member. Facebook pages are used for short sharp communications, reminders and pointers to the website. Our page will also give members a platform to communicate, ask questions of, and feed back to, the committee and its officers. The page is available to all members. Normal standards of politeness and behaviour are expected.

There will also be a Davepaddles Facebook general page where other information to be shared with non-members, and show them what they are missing.

The club uses WhatsApp to organise Trips and share information with participants. This is controlled by the Head of Watersports Officer. Each Trip activity uses a new WhatsApp ‘silo’ and these are deleted a few weeks after the event has completed so that phone numbers and personal comments are deleted.

The club is a new venture so it will take a while to settle down. I would welcome any feedback or ideas on how Communications can be run to benefit all.
