On Saturday Oct 7th 24.
We set out from the little carpark on the side of the river Cam with rowing 8’s and instructors on pushbikes shouting at them. Its was a bit chaotic getting on, but nether the less we went on our way.
Paddling downstream for what seemed like ages, It was a gorgeous day with the sun burning through the clouds, the mist on the river lifting, the odd cow drinking from the river on the bank,
Chris and I (Dave) had many a good conversation on the what seemed a trek to past paddles on this stretch of the river.
We had arranged to meet a paddle boarding group at the lock led by Ian (sup with Ana).
2.5 miles later we reached the lock and realised we had gone the wrong way on the river. LOL.
So in hasty retreat and with a bit of pace we returned to where we had started from,
Carrying on, we past many canoe clubs, rowing 4’s 8’s and 2’s, that approach swiftly and quietly but giving each other room we managed to negotiate past each other.
On reaching the lock Dave gave Ian a call who said he was nearing the Canoe club. (great we had passed loads of them) so we took a break and had a coffee and a rest.
Once back on the water, upstream towards the Uni, which is actually 16 College’s combined. we negotiated the Punts and novice punter’s. to end up at the rollers. Dave rang Ian again who said we are at the canoe club for lunch. we were that lost! eventually up and over the rollers portage we paddled right and spotted the many SUP’s Just passed a canoe club.
anyway we all met up briefly for a quick chat and sandwich, then off we went, it turns out that our get ins were either side of Cambridge, and we approached from different directions. but we all had a great day.
Back to our relevant get outs we went, and yet another great day on the water was had by all.
Too busy navigating to take many pics on this one, but a great day out with great people.
